The Legacy.

Team Athena was launched in January 2019 and made its competitive debut at World of Dance Dallas later that same year. In its second season, the team transitioned into its current leadership under Darius Brown and Kylah Kuura, marking the beginning of a new era for the organization.

Since then, Athena has established itself as one of Texas’ most dominant women’s teams — earning 1st Place and Crowd Favorite at World of Dance Houston 2022, followed by four consecutive 1st Place titles at World of Dance Dallas from 2023 through 2026, along with a 1st Place finish at Down South Houston 2025.

Beyond competition, Athena has produced two successful runs of its statewide Renaissance showcase, hosted countless industry-level workshops through Team Athena Presents, and built a growing portfolio of video projects and collaboration with local artists each season.

Athena dancers have gone on to pursue professional opportunities with organizations such as the LSU Tiger Girls, Dallas’ NBA and NFL dance teams, and commercial careers working with artists including Doja Cat and Doechii — solidifying Team Athena as a proven training ground for the next generation of female dance talent in Texas.

  • To develop Dallas into a dance hub for commercial and industry work, while providing professional opportunities to our members and building  our local and state community.

  • To aid and support female dancers in Dallas on their professional dance journey by maintaining an industry level standard of training, performances, and competitive opportunities.

Meet our Directors

  • Kylah Kuura began her dance journey in 2003 and has been on a pursuit of excellence ever since. Initially trained in Horton Modern technique and Jazz, her passion for teaching and creative direction blossomed after attending the Black Repertory Theatre’s summer camp in 2011. Throughout her college years, she honed her skills by directing numerous competitive teams, spanning from youth to collegiate levels. Joining the leadership of Team Athena and Floor Invasion Dance Crew in 2019 marked a pivotal moment, where she not only found her enduring dance family but also a platform to express her creativity and refine her craft.

    In 2024, Team Athena has earned the prestigious title of 3-time World of Dance Texas Champions, while Floor Invasion Dance Crew holds 2 consecutive Primetime Presidential Cup victories. She provides industry-level training experiences for her dancers, including photoshoots, concept video shoots, gig opportunities, and more. Under her guidance, several of her dancers have achieved remarkable milestones, such as cast invitations to Monsters and Kaos, appearances alongside Doja Cat at Coachella, Kaos Delta Dancer of the Year 2024 and joining LSU’s Tiger Girls. Beyond competitions, Kylah channels her creativity into collaborations with local female artists in DFW, contributing to the development of live performances, choreography, and music video concepts.

    Whether in the spotlight or working behind the scenes, her influence is unmistakable. Her dedication to excellence drives her relentless pursuit of innovation and growth in every aspect of her career. Looking ahead, she remains committed to nurturing emerging dancers and artists through ongoing training and mentorship, while also advancing her passion for creative direction on a commercial scale.

  • Darius began her dance journey in 2014, at the age of 19. Training with several competitive teams such as Freakin’ WAACK, Impact N Change Crew, and The Neighborhood which developed her love for the competition stage. She went on to direct The Neighborhood, earning several “Winners Circle” titles between 2016 and 2018. She continues to teach at multiple dance studios throughout DFW, as well as performing and choreographing professionally for DFW teams such as the Dallas Mavericks and The Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders.

    Darius is one of the founders and current directors of your WOD Dallas ‘24 Championship team- Team Athena. Through Team Athena she hopes to continue to spread her passion and knowledge for dance, while encouraging growth in herself, the team, and the Texas dance community.
